artist comments: "After living in Peru for 1 year, I moved to the heart of Los Angeles. This is my first creation after taking a 1 yr break from painting. Since I didn't know exactly which new direction I was heading, I decided to do a self portrait to get back into the creative flow. About half way through, all that was on the canvas was a black and white image of my face. Then I began to really question what this "self" was that I was attempting to paint. I wanted to share my understanding that the real self is not my physical form, but is found within....."
